OASIS-C continues its march toward implementation, which has been projected for early next year. On Friday, March 13, 2009, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) posted the latest iteration of the data set to its Web site. There were several changes, most of them minor, involving clarification through changes in title and responses. New and deleted data elements OASIS-C version 12.2 eliminates M1014, medical or treatment regimen change in the last 14 days. M2100, types and sources of assistance , replaces M2100, patient management of equipment. In the previous version of OASIS-C, this data element was M2110. OASIS-C adds M1307, date of oldest, unhealed Stage II pressure ulcer. This iteration eliminates data elements on a change in mobility, self-care ability, and ability to perform household tasks, and data elements on the patient’s abilities to manage medications prior to the illness or injury. The intent of the questions, however, carries through in two new data elements: M1900, prior functioning ADL/IADL, and M2040, prior medication management. Title and other changes CMS changed the title, instructions, and responses for several data elements, most likely to clarify the intent of data collection. Here is a sampling.
Of particular importance: CMS is standing firm on its burden estimate. It maintains that these changes will have no net impact on the OASIS burden.
