The RAC Audit: Defensive Strategies
Session 3 of the Series: Surviving a RAC Attack: Strategies to Reduce Financial Risk
Description:
The RAC program is the latest of many efforts by the CMS to ensure appropriate Medicare payments. Even though RACs will focus on specific issues, their findings can create a specter of fraud. Homecare providers must know how to explain suspicious practices and strengthen compliant care delivery.
This session will examine:
- A primer on fraud and the role of RACs in the CMS effort to control this abuse
- Why “reasonable and necessary care” will be a central focus
- Strategies for nurses and therapists to strengthen reasonable and necessary care
- “Suspicious” practices involving ranges, physician authorization, occupational therapy services, and more
